Obituary for Betty Jane Elaine Hinz (Bearwald)

Betty Jane E (Bearwald) Hinz, age 90, of Van Dyne, passed away at her home, with her family by her side on December 26, 2023. She was born to parents, Clarence and Clara (Giese) Bearwald on July 11, 1933, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

She married the love of her life, Donald Hinz, on June 4, 1954, at Martin Luther Church, in Oshkosh Wisconsin. Together they raised five children.

Betty also worked at the Oshkosh Northwestern Newspaper, Mary Lester Fabric Shop in Park Plaza, and worked from home for an insurance company.

She enjoyed reading, sewing, ceramics, and playing Sheepshead. Betty will be remembered for her kindness and always being humble. In her spare time, she could be found delivering care packages, volunteering at the church, or lending a helping hand.

Betty is survived by her children, Keith (Bev) Hinz, Lynn (Rhoda) Hinz, Gary (Wendy) Hinz, and Susan (Greg) Peters; her 16 grandchildren, Matt (Angela) Hinz, Mike (Fatime) Hinz, Brian (Renee) Hinz, Sara (Kyle) Schwoch, Andrew (Ashley) Hinz, Ryan (Tiffany) Hinz, Adam (Caryne) Hinz, Christopher (Laurel) Hinz, Jeff Hinz, Jason (Jessica) Colton, Jennifer (Brad) Barber, Melissa Hardel, Amanda Hardel (Luke), Steven Peters, Nicole Peters, and Michael (Casey) Peters; 28 great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert (Mary) Bearwald, and David (Eunice) Bearwald; and many nieces; nephews; extended family and friends. She is further survived by sisters-in-law, Virginia Hinz, and Karen (Duane) Schroeder; brother-in-law, Larry (Virginia) Hinz.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Donald Hinz; daughter, Sandra Sell; brother, Orland Bearwald; and parents-in-law, August and Goldie Hinz; brother-in-law, Darrell Hinz; sister-in-law, Joyce (Marlo) Roberts; and other family members.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be forwarded to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Nekimi, Wisconsin.

The family would like to thank the staff at Aurora at Home Hospice, especially Lisa and Angela, for their care and compassion during this difficult time.

Visitation will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 491 Old Oregon Rd, Nekimi, Wisconsin, on Friday, December 29, 2023, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm then again on Saturday, December 30, 2023, from 9:00am to 11:00am with service to follow.
