Obituary for Bonnie Lou Steinike (Olsen)

Bonnie (Olsen) Steinike, 91, passed away on January 8, 2024. She was born May 21, 1932, in Escanaba, Michigan. She graduated from Appleton High School in 1950 and worked for Dr. S. J. Kloehn in Appleton. Bonnie married Robert Steinike in 1953 and they lived in Oshkosh after Robert came home from the Navy in 1955.

They had two sons, Andrew Martin and David Robert Steinike. Bonnie worked in the dental offices of Dr. Robert Herman and Dr. John Richardson until her Retirement in 1994.

Bonnie and Robert, together with their son David and many helpful friends, built a cabin in Poy Sippi, Wisconsin beginning in 1990. They spent a lot of time with their family, grandchildren, friends, and relatives over the years. They enjoyed gardening and had quite a large one they maintained over the years, even in Poy Sippi’s sandy soil. Many Christmases were celebrated at the cabin including in 2023. Bonnie enjoyed reading, was a faithful member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, and a longtime member of the Library Morning Book club, as she was an avid reader. Among many volunteer roles she had in her life, the last one was at the Oshkosh Food Pantry. She was a bright light in many lives and will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her son, David (Nancy) Steinike; two grandchildren, Lara (Janina) Steinike-Kuhn and Kristen (Hunter) Heenan; and great-grandchild, Bransen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Steinike; son, Andrew Steinike; parents, Hazel and Martin; sisters, Olive and Thora; and brothers, John and James.

A celebration of life will be held at Wesley United Methodist, 761 Florida Ave., Oshkosh, WI, on Monday, January 15, 2024. Visitation will be from 9am until 11am with services to follow.

Memorials can be given to Wesley United Methodist Church and The Oshkosh Area Food Pantry.
