Obituary for Christine Louise Gardener

Christine Louise Gardener, 81, passed away March 16, 2024 at Evergreen in Oshkosh, WI.

Chris was born on July 3, 1942 to Charles B. Hoy and Shirley M. Hoy (Seabold) in Chicago, IL.  After graduating from Taft H.S. in Chicago, she went on to receive a BS in Art Education from Northern Illinois University DeKalb in 1964. She continued her education and earned an MA in Art History from the University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign in 1966.

Chris married Milton K. Gardener February 24,1967 in Menasha. Milton adored and doted on her. They bought a home and moved to Oshkosh in 1971.

Her education and passion for art led her to a career as a high school art teacher in Omro. She also taught classes in art history at the UW Oshkosh for several years.

Chris was an avid collector of arts and crafts from all over the world.  She was an inspiring teacher and orator on art history.  She loved to travel.  In her earlier years, she took many trips to Italy with her husband and students from the university.  She enjoyed reading, listening to classical music, attending symphony concerts and ballets, entertaining and decorating for parties, socializing with friends, painting and embellishing items-to give it her unique touch, fashion, and the love to shop.  Chris loved jewelry and had a great eye for beautiful things.

Chris was predeceased by her beloved husband, Milton; parents, Chuck and Shirley Hoy; brother, Thomas C. Hoy. She is survived by niece, Kathy (Gene) M. Iturbide of Stillman Valley, IL; nephew, Michael P. Hoy of Hudson NY; niece, Valerie Johnson of Cleveland, OH; sister-in-law, Shirley Johnson of Cleveland, OH; great-niece, Paige Iturbide of Milwaukee, WI; great-nephew, Jackson Iturbide of Villa Park, IL; and many close and loyal friends.

Christine will be laid to rest at Lake View Memorial Park in Oshkosh.  No funeral services, but a luncheon for family and friends at a later date.
