Obituary for Claudeen Marion Ross (Stromske)

Claudeen M. Ross passed away early Tuesday morning, October 4, 2022, at age 78. She is finally free from the pain of Rheumatoid Arthritis and other medical issues that have plagued her for the past 30 years.

She was born Claudeen Marion Stromske to Clem and Grace (Schnable) Stromske in Chicago, IL on November 28, 1943. Claudeen and her mother lived in Chicago while Clem was serving in the Army during World War II. She didn’t get to meet her dad until several months after she was born. After Clem came home from the war, they lived in Kentucky for a short time and in the early 50’s they moved to Oshkosh. At that time her family became members of First English Lutheran Church.

Claudeen attended Jefferson Elementary, South Park Jr. High and Oshkosh High School graduating in 1962. After graduation Claudeen worked as a long-distance operator for Wisconsin Bell and after that Copps Department Store, some of you will remember both these businesses.

She married Gary E. Ross in May of 1974, they shared 48 years together. Gary was in the Air Force and she moved with him to Tacoma, WA, Duluth, MN, and then back to Tacoma while Gary was in Alaska. After his discharge from the military in 1975, they moved to Oshkosh, WI and have remained here.

Claudeen worked as an assistant at St. Mary’s and Sacred Heart Schools, she worked hardest as a stay-at-home mom. She loved to crochet, making numerous Afghan blankets for family and friends. In 1991 Claudeen, Gary E. and their son Gary R. started “Ross Special Video Productions” or RSVP, videotaping weddings, as a part time business while Gary E. was working with the Oshkosh Fire Department. She also worked as a wedding coordinator at First English Lutheran.

In February 1992 Claudeen was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis but continued working until 2000 when it became too difficult to continue. Gary and Claudeen were able to travel, and she always enjoyed the late winter, early spring trips to Arizona, Texas and Florida. In 2010 travel became difficult due to her illness and by 2019 she was moved into facilitated care where she stayed until she passed.

Claudeen was a very social person, she could start up and carry a conversation with anyone, and she usually did.

Claudeen is survived by her husband of 48 years, Gary E. Ross; son, Gary R. (Kimberly) Ross; and grandsons, Ian and Connor.
Preceding her in death are her parents; and her brother John Stromske.

Visitation will be held at First English Lutheran Church, 1013 Minnesota Street, Oshkosh, on Saturday October 8, 2022, from 10am until the time of service at 12pm. Pastor Jonathon Radichel-Wills will be officiating.
Burial will take place at a later date.

"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; Mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away."
