Obituary for Darrin Michael Anderson

Darrin Michael Anderson, age 54, of Oshkosh, passed away September 26, 2021, following a brief illness. He was born December 21, 1966, in Princeton, IL, to Albert and Dorothy (Heuer) Anderson.

Darrin was self-employed as a project management consultant, working at Wisconsin Reinsurance Group in Sun Prairie, WI for the last several years.

A lifelong roleplaying game enthusiast, and published contributor to various games over the years, Darrin enjoyed spending time with his friends and son, Jack, at various conventions across the Midwest. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of all things military history, with a special passion for WWII history, and was a brilliant strategist which served him well both in games and in life.

When the Andersons’ son, Henry, died unexpectedly in 2009 at age 3, Darrin spent countless hours researching over 6000 rare diseases to determine Henry’s cause of death and save their remaining son, Jack. Once he determined the rare disease that claimed their son’s life, Anderson worked tirelessly to get the $2 newborn screening test that could have saved Henry mandated in the state with only brief success – a story that has been covered by newspapers across the state both at the time it happened and again in November of 2019 on the tenth anniversary of Henry’s death. His boys and his wife were his life. He was their rock.

Always one to strike up a conversation, those who had the pleasure of his company would have heard stories about his childhood business organizing neighborhood kids to catch fireflies for Sigma of St. Louis, MO to help aid in cancer research for a reimbursement of a penny per firefly; of his college days and all the joy life at the Phi Kappa Theta house at Northern Illinois University brought him; of his experience publishing Adventures of Henry children’s books in memory of his son Henry; or of the immense love and pride he had for his sons.

Darrin is survived by his wife, Sarah (Wilson) Anderson, whom he married on November 6, 1999; son, Jack Anderson; mother-in-law, Patti Wilson; sister, Connie (Tom) Slutz; sister, Carolyn (Mike) Welch; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by son Henry Anderson; his parents; sister Sandie Beauprez and brother Alan Anderson.

Visitation for Darrin will be held Saturday, October 2, from 1-3pm at Seefeld Funeral Home in Oshkosh with a brief service immediately following, officiated by Pr. Connie Weiss. Masks will be required for all attendees. A private family burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a gofundme account has been established to help the family offset expenses associated with Darrin’s untimely death.
