Obituary for Donald Gerald Pockat

Donald G. Pockat, 91 of Oshkosh, passed away peacefully at Eden Meadows Nursing Home on Thursday September 22, 2022. Don was born January 30, 1931, to Paul and Edna (nee Heling) Pockat in Marion WI. He graduated from Marion High School, Class of ‘49 and went on to UW Oshkosh, studying Physical Education.

He married Patsy R. Pollack in 1952 and together raised six children. He was proud of working for the Soo Line railroad in Manitowoc WI. Every year the family vacationed in Sayner WI and eventually it became their home when they bought a resort on beautiful Plum Lake. They worked hard together to raise their family and run a successful business. Don went to work for GTE as a lineman to help make that happen. After losing Patsy in 1980, Dad met and married Carol Pollack and moved to Oshkosh.

Don was preceded in death by his first wife Patsy, wife Carol, two sons Gary and David Pockat, and grandson Timothy Pockat. He is survived by three sons Ronald (Mitzi) Pockat of Sayner, Michael (Diane) Pockat of Woodruff, Brian Pockat of Appleton and one daughter, Debra Pockat of Sayner, WI; two daughters-in-law, Karen (Gary) Pockat of St. Germain and Barb (David) Pockat of Cape Coral, FL as well as Carol’s children, Ellen (Paul) Cook, Mike (Jen) Pollack, Tom (Jill) Pollack, all from Oshkosh, WI and Sarah (Jim) Grota of Rochester, MN. In addition, Don had eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Don enjoyed his winters in Florida with Carol and fishing in Minnesota with family. He loved cars. Many pictures were taken of us kids and typically there was a car in the background that he could name with all of the specifics. He would tell you that he was blessed and grateful for a full life.

A visitation will be from 11AM until the time of the funeral service at 1PM on Saturday, October 1,2022 at Seefeld Funeral Home. A gathering to follow. Burial will be at the Sayner Cemetery on Monday, October 3rd with a graveside service at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Carol or the charity of your choice.

The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Eden Meadows Nursing Home and Compassus Hospice for their wonderful care. Further, thank you to special neighbors Joe and Marge Kolb for their help and support throughout the years.
