Obituary for Janice D. Pennau

Mrs. Janice D Pennau, 104, died peacefully in the morning of February 13, 2023 at Evergreen Retirement Community in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Born in Oshkosh on August 7, 1918, Janice was the youngest of three girls. Her parents, Julius and Marie Due, immigrated separately from Denmark.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Karl Ludwig Pennau and by her sisters, Julia Petersen and Ellen Due. Janice is survived by her three children, Karen Fronduti, K. Susan Lund, Karl Pennau Jr, and Jan Johnston. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Janice earned a BA in history with a minor in math from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She also earned a Business Certificate and worked in Madison for the Attic Angels Visiting Nurses. She considered herself a wife, mother, and homemaker first. Janice cultivated lifelong friendships as a member of Camp Fire Girls, PEO, and Maryall Community Center. She served on the VNA board in Neenah and volunteered for Meals on Wheels.

Those who knew Janice well will remember her curiosity, principles, and wit. She valued learning new points of view while her motto was "Bloom where you're Planted!" Even in her later years Janice welcomed her coming end with gratitude for life's richness and blessings.

She has been cremated. Memorial services will be arranged at Evergreen Retirement Community. Memorials in Janice’s name may be given to Evergreen Retirement Community, Continuum of Care, and the Paine Art Center.
