During his time in post-secondary education, Jerry spent four summers studying under National Science Foundation grants to help apply math, science, electronics, and computers to technology education, including two summers at University of Illinois, one at University of Houston, TX, and one at University of Wisconsin – Madison.

Beyond his career, Jerry spent many years volunteering as a docent at the Paine Art Center, including one year as President of Garden Docents and another year as President of Art & House Docents. He was also a past member of Master Gardeners and an avid gardener, a charter member of St. Vincent DePaul of Oshkosh, an active member of St. Mary’s and later Most Blessed Sacrament parishes, including being an usher and communion distributor for many years.
