Obituary for Lucy C Ohlrich

Lucy Ohlrich, age 89, passed away at Evergreen Retirement Community on Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 23, 2023. She was born in Shorewood, Wisconsin to the late Bernard and Annabel Connolly on March 24, 1934. She graduated from Holy Angels Academy in Milwaukee and from St. Mary’s College in South Bend, Indiana. She spent many years teaching elementary school in several states.

Lucy enjoyed crafts, including sewing, knitting, painting, and cross-stitch.  She was an avid Scrabble player as everyone in the family would agree. She and Wayne, her husband of forty years, loved to play cards as well.   After retirement, Lucy and Wayne traveled extensively around the United States and Europe. They spent many summers navigating around the Great Lakes; Lucy read all of the navigational charts. They enjoyed boating on local lakes and rivers. Together they used to catch large quantities of fish – more on a good day!   A special treat was taking day trips to Zittau for cheese curds or finding a good fish fry!

Lucy is survived by her husband Wayne Ohlrich; her children, Rachel (Bruce) Chamberlain and Aaron (Rebecca) Cohen; her grandchildren, Daniel Chamberlain, Ian Chamberlain, Lauren Chamberlain, Audra Cohen-Plata (Christian Plata), and Christopher (Melissa) Cohen; and great-grandson, Wyatt Plata. She is also survived by her brother Paul Connolly. She is preceded in death by her parents and by her sister-in-law, Gretchen Connolly.

A special thank you goes to all the staff of Evergreen Manor View and Creekview, and Compassus Hospice for their kindness and support.

A funeral mass will be held at Evergreen Retirement Community on Saturday, December 9th at 11:00 am. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am immediately preceding the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to the Day By Day Warming Shelter of Oshkosh or the Oshkosh Area Humane Society.
