Obituary for Mary Gayle Sagen

Mary G. Sagen, 93, peacefully passed in Oshkosh, WI on January 22, 2023. She was born in Chicago, Illinois to Luella (Bailey) and James Madison Davis on March 20, 1929. Mary and John Sagen were wed on February 18, 1950 and together they shared 56 years of marriage.

Mary loved being a wife and a mother, and relished her time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Those who knew her well often referred to her as their “second mom”. She was the loving matriarch of all the family get-togethers. She enjoyed cooking and bird watching, and was a diehard Green Bay Packer fan. She will be remembered for being a humble and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mary was also a very charitable woman and gave often to her favorite charities, one of which is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

She is survived by her children, Carole Sagen, Kathy (Jeff) Lammers, Judi (Bill) Grimes, and Joe (Erron) Sagen; grandchildren Tom (Kelly) Walzer, Jason (Andrea) Walzer, Kate (Mike Patitucci) Grimes, Will (Birdie) Grimes, Madisen (Tyler) Anklam, and Bailey Sagen; great-grandchildren Logan Walzer, Rhianna Walzer, Paige Walzer, Avedon Walzer, Everett Walzer, Luka Patitucci, Elliot Grimes, and James Anklam.

Preceding her in death are her husband, John Sagen; her parents, Luella and James Davis; and her siblings, Shirley, James, Louella, and Betty.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in memory of Mary.
