Obituary for Melda Hertha Anna Schroeder (Pockat)

Melda Hertha Anna (Pockat) Schroeder, age 95 of Oshkosh, Wisconsin died peacefully at home, Saturday June 3, 2023, with her daughter and son at her side. Melda was born on June 21, 1927, in the town of Grant, Shawano County, Wisconsin to Benjamin and Martha (Buss) Pockat, she attended Valley View Community school where she met her future husband, Raymond Schroeder also of the town of Grant.

Melda and Raymond were married on August 19, 1950 at Saint John’s Lutheran Church in the town of Grant, they resided in the area before moving to Shawano Wisconsin. During that time, they had two children, a son, Dale, and a daughter Debra, having moved to Oshkosh in 1962.

Melda was a homemaker who enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends. She enjoyed playing Bingo, Rummy and Crazy Eights, hobbies like oil painting, latch hook and other crafts, dancing with Raymond and spending time with her two grandsons.

Melda is survived by her two children, Dale and Debra (Douglas) Potratz; her two grandsons, Matthew (Marijen) Potratz and great-grand daughter, Joanna Potratz of Midland Texas; grandson, Aaron (Stacey Hetherington) Potratz and great-grandson Jacob and Finn Potratz of Appleton, Wisconsin and is also survived by her brother, Ken Pockat of the town of Grant and is further survived by five nieces and two nephews.
Melda was preceded in death by her brother, Milton (Mildred) Pockat; brother, Lloyd (Doris) Pockat and sons, Larry Pockat and Michael Pockat; and Elaine Pockat, wife of Ken Pockat; and in-laws, Roland (Evelyn) Schroeder and Allen (Mary Ann) Wendt.

Visitation will be held at Seefeld Funeral Home, 1025 Oregon Street, Oshkosh on Friday evening, from 4pm to 7pm and then again at First English Lutheran Church, 1013 Minnesota Street, Oshkosh on Saturday from 9am until 11am followed by services at 11am. Burial at Lake View Memorial Park will be held on Monday.
