Obituary for Wayne Gordon Ohlrich

Wayne G. Ohlrich, age 90, passed away on December 5, 2023 at Evergreen Retirement Community. He was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin to the late Elmer and Elsie Ohlrich on June 12, 1933. He graduated from Fond du Lac High School. He served for four years in the U.S. Air Force.  After his military service, Wayne graduated from UW-Milwaukee with a BBA degree. Over the years Wayne worked in personnel management for the city of Fond du Lac and for a number of local companies, including Speed Queen and Square D. He also was a member of the Fond du Lac Jaycees and held multiple positions within that organization, including president from 1965-1966.

Wayne enjoyed boating and fishing. He and his wife, Lucy, spent many summers on local lakes and rivers, but they especially loved navigating around the Great Lakes. They traveled all over the United States; they visited Canada and many countries in Europe. Wayne and Lucy loved to play cards and they were avid readers – they each always had a good book in progress. Wayne could often be found watching history programs or movies about World War II.

Wayne is survived by his niece, Lori (Brian) Hedberg; grand-nieces Grace Hedberg and Tessa Hedberg ; sister-in-law LaVerne Kersztyn; and brother-in-law Paul Connolly; and step-daughter Rachel (Bruce) Chamberlain and step-son Aaron (Rebecca) Cohen; and step-grandchildren, Daniel Chamberlain, Ian Chamberlain, Lauren Chamberlain, Audra Cohen-Plata (Christian Plata), and Christopher (Melissa) Cohen; and step-great-grandson, Wyatt Plata.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife Lucy, his parents, his brother Lloyd Ohlrich, and his nephew Jeff Ohlrich.

A special thank you goes to all the staff of Evergreen Manor View and Compassus Hospice for their kindness and support.

A funeral mass will be held at Evergreen Retirement Community on Saturday, December 9th at 11:00 am. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am immediately preceding the funeral.
