Obituary for Bonnie Jean Kasten

Bonnie Jean Kasten, went to meet her sweet Jesus in heaven, Saturday, July 29, 2017, where she could finally walk, run, talk, and sing after 84 years of suffering with cerebral palsy and most recently cancer. She was born on August 28, 1932, on a farm near Cornell, Wisconsin, to John and Erma (Paus) Kasten. They were told that she would only live to be about age 12, but God had other plans. Her life relied completely on others and she was always cared for by family members in their homes; her parents, sister, Virginia Nelson, niece, Peggy (Nelson) Thielke, grandniece, Sarah (Thielke) Ives, and grandnephew, Nathan and Erika Thielke. She was always just a part of the family. Through that, she taught three generations to have love, compassion, acceptance, and respect for those with disabilities.
Survivors include her brother, Douglas (Lilli) Kasten of Penrose, Colorado; sister-in-law, Mildred Callahan, of California; and many nieces, grand and great-nieces; nephews, grand and great-nephews, all which she affectionately called the “pooties.” She was preceded in death by her parents-papa and momma; sisters, Jita (Joyce Lilla), Nina (Wilma Dennison), and Ginya (Virginia Nelson); and a brother, Lloyd Kasten.
Bonnie has left an amazing impression on all who knew and cared for her. Even as God’s eye is on the sparrow, He was always watching out for Bonnie. A grateful thank you to Hartland Hospice and Chaplain David for all their compassionate care.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 30, 2017, at 4:00 p.m. in Seefeld Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, Oshkosh. A time of visiting and sharing of memories will be held from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Interment will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery, LaCrescent, Minnesota, on Wednesday, August 2, 2017.
