Obituary for Neil David Rasmussen

Neil David Rasmussen
Neil D. Rasmussen, age 88, of Oshkosh, died Monday, January 15, 2018, at Lakeshore Manor in Oshkosh. Born on May 16, 1929, in Oshkosh, the son of Raymond and Cecilia (Beck) Rasmussen, Neil married Barbara Bauer on December 22, 1951, at Peace Lutheran Chapel.
He served his country with the U.S. Naval Air Force for 3 years, 10 months, and 19 days, from 1948 to 1952. Neil was employed at Winnebago Mental Health as a painter before his retirement. He enjoyed duck and grouse hunting (rarely missing a bird), bird watching, gardening, squirrel catch and release program, a history buff, reading, and traveling the U.S. with close friends, Jug and Elaine Albrecht.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Barbara Rasmussen; a son, John (Nicki) Rasmussen; four daughters, Karen Fenrich, Susan (Jack) Farmer, Lynn (Richard) Hawley, and Jodie Rasmussen; grandchildren, Scott Farmer, Amy Goebel, Tanner Rasmussen, Katie Rasmussen, Katie A., Erica Szesterniak, maintained a special bond with Conner and Garret Hyler, Molly Schonscheck, Adam, Brian, Melissa, Trevor, Alex, Andrew, Hope, and Mary Dawn Fenrich; eleven great-grandchildren; a brother, Curtis (Desy) Rasmussen; and two sisters-in-law, Lois Leinenvber and Lanette Greer. Preceding Neil in death are his parents.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. in Seefeld Funeral Chapels. A time of visiting and sharing of memories will be held at the funeral chapel on Friday from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Oshkosh Area Humane Society in Neil’s memory would be most appreciated. A heartfelt thank you from the Rasmussen family, to the caregivers at Lakeshore Manor, for the care given to Neil during his stay there.
Dad enjoyed Big Band music. His humor was sarcastic and very witty. Dad liked to sing parts of songs “And the band played on” was one of his favorites. Dad will be missed by family and friends and if Dad was here today he would ask “Now what”? Love you Dad!
