Obituary for Gerald Lee "Jerry" Putman
Gerald L. “Jerry” Putman, age 82, of Oshkosh, died Sunday morning, November 26, 2017, at his home. Born on October 29, 1935, in Green Bay, the son of Harold and Irene Entringer Putman, Jerry married Sandra A. Miles on September 4, 1962, in Green Bay. Sandra preceded him in death on July 16, 2017.
He earned a Master’s Degree in social work and was employed for over 30 years with Winnebago County Social Services with the Child Protection Department. He served his country with the U.S. Army in Korea after the war. An avid pilot, Jerry was a member of EAA. As a young man, he played football for three years at Fordham University and later was a two week walk-on for the Baltimore Colts Football Team. He enjoyed motorcycles, snow skiing, and tinkering /carpentry around his home. Jerry enjoyed time spent with Sandy dancing and participated with Sandy with Prison Literacy.
Survivors include two adored daughters, Julie (Michael Yonkers) Putman of Brookfield, Wisconsin, and Jenifer (David) Waite of Morton Grove, Illinois; four special grandchildren, Gabriel (Katie) Putman, Katie (Ricky) Olney, Sara (Ryan) Grego, and David L. Waite; a great-grandson, Lucas Olney; a great-granddaughter, Stella Grego; a brother, Dan (Elaine) Putman; a niece, Mary Putman; and a nephew, Jim Putman. Preceding Jerry in death is his wife, parents, a daughter, Victoria Putman, and a brother, Reverend James Putman.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in Seefeld Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street. A time of visiting and sharing of memories will be held on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy to the Day by Day Warming Shelter in Oshkosh would be appreciated (www.warmingshelter.com or mail to 449 High Ave., Oshkosh, 54901) in Jerry’s memory.
