Obituary for Harland Robert Gumz

Harland Robert Gumz, age 93, of Oshkosh, passed away unexpectedly on December 14, 2014. He was born on June 11, 1921, in Oshkosh, the son of Harvey and Anna Gumz. On June 30, 1951, Harland married Marian Irene Kotkosky and she preceded him in death on June 25, 2009.
A proud, patriotic veteran, Harland received the Purple Heart while serving with the U.S. Army during WWII. He was employed by Oshkosh Motor Truck as a billing manager for 34 years. Harland attended Most Blessed Sacrament Parish and Glynn Park with his family. He loved being with his family, traveling, singing, playing cards and Bingo, and was always looking for the “big catch”.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Ann Gumz and Pamela M. Gumz both of Oshkosh; a son-in-law, Thomas R. Zellner of Oshkosh; three sisters, Shirley Fetter of San Antonio, Texas, Joyce Hintze of Oshkosh, and Donna Miller of Oshkosh. Preceded in Harland in death is his wife; parents; step-mother, Illa Gumz; brother, Donald Gumz; sister-in-law, Clara Gumz; and sisters, Lorraine, Ruby, Jane, and Phyllis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, St. Peter Catholic Church, 435 High Ave., with Reverend William Van De Kreeke officiating. Entombment will follow the service at Lake View Memorial Park. A time of visiting and sharing of memories will be held on Wednesday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church.
