Obituary for Robert John Zimmerman

Robert John Zimmerman, age 81, died Thursday morning, February 9, 2017, at Evergreen. Born on February 24, 1935, son of Argyle A. and Margaret (Wallendal) Zimmerman, his family lived for 5 years east of Waupun. His family moved to farm north of Eldorado in 1940 where Bob attended the Box Elder Line School and graduated from the Rosendale Union Free High School in 1953. He spent 2 years in the Army from 1957-1959. Bob was united in marriage to Karla Koepsell on September 12, 1959.
He served on the school board of B.D.Leith and Rosendale-Brandon. Bob served churches in the areas where he lived in various capacities. He was a dairy farmer for most of the years his children were growing up. Bob liked carpentry work and was interested in Energy Saving Construction; designed and built, with the help of his family, a Solar Heated Demonstration Home in 1978. His interest resulted in building several homes utilizing solar heat, the last one for themselves in the town of Manchester, Markesan that they lived in for 21 years. Besides farming, Bob loved to work with the soil, planting trees and gardening, enjoyed working at J.W. Jung for several years. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling and playing cards.
The diagnosis of Parkinson in 1993 resulted in his interest of diseases and his request that upon his death his body be donated for scientific study, especially the brain and the effects from Parkinson. Bob is survived by his wife, Karla, daughter Laura (Victor) Ruiz, Milwaukee; sons William (Margaret), Sun Prairie, John (Amy), Oshkosh, and Paul, Appleton; nine grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Jean (Rev. Larry) Webb and RuthMary (Julius) Likler.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. in Calvary Lutheran Church, 2580 W. 9th Ave., with Reverend Timothy Routh officiating. A time of visiting and sharing of memories will be held on Saturday from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bob’s name to Calvary Lutheran Church, Parkinson Research, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care given to Bob by the nurses and staff of Evergreen during his stay with them.
