Obituary for Tammie L. Coates (Gaylor)

Tammie L. Coates, age 53, of Oshkosh, passed away peacefully with family and friends at her side on Saturday, April 22, 2017. She was born in Milwaukee on February 7, 1964, the daughter of George and Sherry Gaylor. She graduated from Oshkosh West High School in 1982 and graduated from Martin's School of Hair Design. Tammie owned and operated The Avenue Hair Studio on 20th Street for many years. She was very active with Community Church as a volunteer with the Community Student Ministry. She was involved in Lifest since its beginning in 1999 as Security Control Supervisor. She loved spending time with her many friends. She also enjoying shopping, camping, and playing her guitar. Tammie will forever be remembered for her kind, friendly and generous nature, strong faith in God and her unwavering devotion to her son, Jacob.
Tammie is survived by her son, Jacob “Jake” Coates; mother, Sherry Williams; special friend, Dan Watt; brothers: David Gaylor (wife, Lisa Hochtritt) and James Gaylor; and former husband, Timothy Coates. She was preceded in death by her father, George Gaylor.
A visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at COMMUNITY CHURCH, 2351 Ryf Rd., Oshkosh.
The family extends a special thank you to those who supported Tammie during her illness, members and staff of Community Church, her loving and devoted friends, salon staff, and nurses and hospice staff at Bethel home.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Tammie’s name is being established.
