Obituary for Carol L. Owens

Carol L. Owens, age 81, of Oshkosh, passed away at home on Saturday, November 3, 2012 surrounded by the love of her family. Carol was born August 8, 1931, in Wabeno, to Peter and Myrtle (Gratton) Braun. On March 22, 1952, she married Elmer J. Owens. Carol loved being a farm wife and mother, it was her most cherished role. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and playing cards. She was a Golden Oak 4-H leader for over 29 years, a member of the Druids, and an active member of Faith Lutheran Church. She was active in politics, starting first as Town Clerk, then as a County Board Supervisor and then as a Wisconsin State Representative from 1992 – 2008. She was also active in Wisconsin Town Association, Winnebago County Republicans, Fond du Lac County Women’s Cancer Control Coalition, Waupun Community & Corrections Board and Green Meadow PTA.
Carol was loved and will be missed by her children: Lynette (Neil) Booth, Loanne (Jon) Flaig, Matthew Owens, and Michelle (Myron) Nelson; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 58 years, Elmer; brother, Quentin L. Braun; and two grandchildren, Nikki Anne and Macey Quinn Nelson.

Funeral services for Carol will be held at 12:30 P.M. on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Faith Lutheran Church, 1745 Ohio St., Oshkosh. A time for visiting will be held at the funeral chapel on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and again at the Church on Wednesday from 11:00 until the time of the service. Carol will be laid to rest in Zoar Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials appreciated to Faith of a Child Daycare in Oshkosh or the Alzheimer’s Association.
